Balanced Pigeon Vase

An iconic  classical form, the Tripod Vase is a feat of technical skill and ornate grandeur. As a child visiting the Potteries Museum, Laura was fascinated by the way the pieces appeared to balance, and the exquisite detail on the animal tripods. Re-imagining this iconic form, Laura stripped back the decoration, to showcase the beautiful form. The thrown stoneware body balances on the thrown and hand built tripods, recreating that sense of wonder Laura felt as a child. The piece is finished with a hand carved pigeon finial, an ode to the tenacious and determined pigeons of Spode’s China hall.
